Professional Experience
James focuses his practice on the areas of health law, civil litigation, and data privacy.
Within health law and civil litigation, James draws on over a decade of experience defending providers in medical malpractice proceedings. He has successfully represented clients through all stages of litigation, including trial, arbitration, and appeal. Prior to joining Helsell Fetterman, James served as Senior Litigation Attorney at the University of Florida Self-Insurance Program, representing insured clinicians throughout five major academic medical centers. James has successfully advocated on behalf of clinicians and researchers before state licensure boards. He has also litigated a variety of business disputes on behalf of individual providers and healthcare organizations.
James’s data privacy practice entails advising clients on the implementation of privacy programs in the context of clinical operations and research, including creating policies and procedures, drafting and negotiation of data processing agreements, and performing privacy impact assessments. In addition to his legal training, James holds a degree in computer science. With the ability to understand and communicate directly on technical issues, James serves as a bridge between legal-compliance and engineering teams on data privacy, governance, and cybersecurity matters.
When he is not practicing law, James enjoys spending time with his family, trail running, cooking, and travel.
